Sustainable Earth Policies

Equally important in my opinion is the preservation and also expansion of natural carbon reservoirs through world and also the need for the implementation of a ban on illegal deforestation, stricter rules regarding land use shifts, and the need for more sponsorship of reforestation and afforestation programs, since forests and wetlands can draw down millions of tonnes of CO₂ annually. Regarding the primary sector I believe that in agriculture, governments must speed up transition to a more sustainable agriculture practice by investing in climate resilient farming, encouraging that there will be a variety of crops by using giving incentives, reducing fertilizer abuse and actively attempting for diet change, particularly a reduction of meat and dairy intake that account for massive methane and nitrous oxide emissions. Moving onto the transport industry we can see that they are already responsible for some 14% of the world's emissions and must be completely shifted by many ideas such as those of phasing out the use of fossil fuelled powered cars worldwide by 2050 aswell and to combine with massive investments in electric car development, high speed rail networks and reliable public transit systems so individuals can travel to important events when in a rush. This will allow a increase in use of public transport and decrease reliance on personal cars. Also I believe that strict global energy efficiency standards should  be enforced for industry , housing and others requiring all new buildings and appliances to use net zero energy standards starting as soon as possible, saving unnecessary quantities of energy and emission.

Currently we are in a huge global crisis right now, with the warming of our planet there are detrimental outcomes that many of you who are sitting down currently are not aware of. We will need to find ways to live a more sustainable future and in order to effectively reduce global warming on a worldwide scale, governments, businesses, and individuals must unite under international policies that target the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions while also ensuring global equity in the transition so that not country is at a disadvantage of not being able to develop.  At the centre of this effort we should all aim for the implementation of a universal carbon pricing system through taxation or cap and trade schemes, which would force the main polluters to pay the cost of their emissions and also to discourage fossil fuel dependence and generate revenue for the large scale investments in renewable energy technologies. Alongside this, every country should commit to a full transition towards renewable energy by no later than 2050 with some countries already do so. They should be focusing on solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, and hydropower, while at the same time introducing an immediate worldwide ban on the construction of new coal fired power plants, which remain the single largest contributors to global CO₂ emissions, however I do understand that this can be rather difficult especially for less developed countries who cannot afford the technology required for sustainable growth and renewable energy.

Moving onto global imbalances in my opinion developed countries have to make significant contributions to an international climate fund, especially the countries that have released the most greenhouse gases enhancing the greenhouse effect.  The money in the fund will be used so that it promotes renewable energy expansion across the world and to help development among poor and climate prone countries so that development for them is not affected. Another important action would be an legally binding agreement signed by all countries, to reduce methane emissions which currently is considered as a 80 times more potent greenhouse gas than CO₂ over 20 years. I would like to also state that the effectiveness of these policies will depend on global governance and a need for cooperation so they do not get broken. We would also need a form of worldwide education to be undertaken to help integrate the idea of climate change into school curricula, media, and community programs so that people from younger demographics are able to leave education with the knowledge necessary to make sustainable choices in their daily lives. These policies form a mixed package that addresses many important sectors emitting greenhouse gases and if kept globally and enforced it can significantly decelerate temperature rise, preventing rising sea levels and ensure a more secure and safe future to the many generations ahead of us. Do not be selfish and think of those in the many years ahead.
